Why reply to positive reviews too
A reply to a negative review gets noticed; a reply to a glowing one looks like mere politeness. Yet it matters. In BrightLocal's 2026 survey, 80% of consumers say they are likely to choose a business that responds to all its reviews, compared with only 45% for one that responds only to positive reviews, and 47% for one that responds only to negative ones1. Replying to everything shows that every customer counts, not just the one who complained.
The customer is told, too: Google sends them a notification when you reply to their review2. A warm reply extends their good experience.
The trap: the copy-paste reply
"Thanks for your review, see you soon!" under twenty reviews in a row: that is what a visitor scrolling through your profile sees. Generic or templated replies put off half of consumers1. And Google recommends short, friendly replies, with no sales pitch3.
The three-step method
- Pick up a detail from the review. The dish, the name of the waiter they mentioned, the deadline you met: it proves you read it.
- Add a piece of information or a glimpse behind the scenes. Google suggests sharing what the customer may not have discovered during their visit3: the autumn menu, the new Saturday hours, the team's work behind what they liked.
- Sign it. A name or initials at the end of the reply make it more authentic, according to Google itself3.
Two or three sentences are enough. No promo code, no invitation to "check out our offers": the person reading you is already a customer.
12 examples to adapt
They are meant to be changed: replace each detail with the one from the review you are answering. Copied as they are, they would become templated replies again.

Should you reply to every 5-star review?
Google states that you don't need to thank every reviewer publicly, and advises replying when you have something relevant to say3. Consumers, however, prefer businesses that reply to everything1. Our advice: reply to all of them, but never the same way twice. For ratings left without a single word, see our guide to reviews without a comment.
What ReplyTop does
ReplyTop applies this method to every review: the reply picks up a detail of what the customer wrote, in their language, in three sentences at most, signed on behalf of your team. Each reply is compared with the establishment's previous hundred, so that no opening is repeated. On Google, replies to 3- to 5-star reviews are published about an hour after they are written.
